Mr. Louis Ewane, Ireland A Great Loss June 23, 2011

On behalf of the Ewane Family Living at home and abroad, I wish to extend my sincere condolence to the Ngu family on this great loss.

All the same, Pa, Professor Victor Amomah Ngu left behind a great legacy to all the SOBANS and Cameroonians as a whole.

Though at times we like to behave like Oliver Twist (always wanting more), I personally believe it was time for Pa to have rest and a deserved peace of mind.

That not withstanding, I pray that the Lord should give the Ngu Family the heart and the courage to accept this great loss.

Stay blessed,

LOUIS NKUMBE MBONG EWANE
SOBAN 1978 CLASS
REPUBLIC OF IRELAND.

Rest in peace Prof. May the good Lord bless your gentle soul and give your family the courage to strive on.
Dr. Christopher Atang & Family Condolences to the Ngu Family June 22, 2011
This is to extend our sincere condolences to Mr. Peter Ngu (the Family Head) and all the members of the Ngu family.  Specifically, I wish to express our heartfelt sorrows to Ndia John, Regina Ngum, Peter, There (Mrs. Teh), Emmanuel, and Joe, including the rest of the Ngu family.

As we grew up in Abakpa Town during our formative years, our parents made us feel that we were brothers and sisters.  Well, Professor lived a full life, sacrificing most of it to ameliorate the living and health conditions of many people.  May his Soul Rest in Perfect Peace.

The passing away of Professor Anoma Ngu is a great loss to his family and the scientific community. An outstanding scientist and researcher, Professor Ngu was awarded the Albert Lasker Clinical Medical Research in 1972, for outstanding contribution to chemotherapeutic treatment.  He held a number of significant appointments in the Cameroon  government, including the Vice Chancellorship of the University. I shouldering all of these responsibilities, Professor Ngu remained a scientist and a physician. He returned to his mission in life, research and helping people deal with diseases and in doing so he remained a student of science  to the very end. I think in the future, his lasting contributions to medicine will also include some of the groundbreaking research he started on HIV and AIDS. We will miss him.

Our condolences to the family.

Sincerely,

Elias K. Bongmba

CANUTE TANGWA Passing on of an exemplar June 22, 2011
When an intellect like Victor Anomah Ngu (VAN) passes on, words thrown up cannot come down just right.

But the French have an apt and succinct way of putting it: Aux grands hommes, la patrie reconnaissante (I would add: Aux grands hommes, comme VAN, le monde reconnaissant).

I only hope the younger generation (myself inclusive) will live by his precepts and practice such as asking the right questions and getting the right answers; intellectual rigour; humility; service and a robust christian faith.

In fact, he was a good man as his contemporary Prof Monekosso once described him. For sure, he will meet his chum, Bernard Fonlon in the beyond.

May your great soul find perfect peace.

Hortensia Ngang Fohtung Prof - The Family Leader June 22, 2011
Professor Ngu to me is remembered for the many things already said about him. I just need to add the outstanding quality he had as a family leader.

As Minister of Health, Prof Anomah Ngu came to visit his ailing mother and pounded achu for her. That said it all - that to Prof, a Minister remains the son of his mother. That respect for seniority is an outstanding quality of the Ngu family. May the deep solidarity you show remain after Prof.

I share your sorrow at his departure. I know a loved one is never old enough to die. Prof's case cannot be different. Ashia Ni John, ashia Ni Peter (Pa Ngu), Ashia Ndia Theresia, Ashia Ndia Emma, Ashia Benjamin Joe.

May God comfort you.

Elsie Effange-Mbella The Passing of A Golden Era June 21, 2011

The demise of Professor Anomah Ngu is certainly the passing of a Golden Era in Cameroon.  He was to be found in every sphere of excellence, bringing with him an aura of intelligence, humanism and ethos that was larger than life itself.

It was always a great privilege and honour to meet him, always of course via the good offices of his colleagues and my benefactors, Professor and Professor Mrs. NJEUMA, to whose apron strings l was always attached.

His wisdom and calmness made even the greatest of challenges look very small. It is very difficult to think of anyone who had his robust and invincible approach to his calling and profession as a medical scientist.

When l last saw him in October 2008, he was in a wheel chair and l was in the company of my late brother-in-law and his friend, Professor Z.M. NJEUMA. We were both saddened by his sudden decline in health but not him. He beamed with an infectious smile and quickly recounted his trip to South Africa from where he was just returning to receive an award ... the umpteenth in an unrivalled and spectacular career of all times.

It is my prayer that as he departs this world to meet his Maker, he would receive the ultimate award from heaven, bequeathed only by God our Father to the most selfless, visionary and benevolent of his creations.

Fare thee well, Professor, and thank you for placing Cameroon on the map of the World of Medicine.
